About Chef Isreal
The Early Years 1969-1987
Isreal Brownlow, Jr. was born to Katie and the late Isreal Brownlow, Sr. in Cruger, Mississippi. As a child he attended Vaiden Elementary and High Schools. As a young boy he always participated in collecting, preparing, and cooking food. During the summer he loved to help his mother; he could often be found tending the garden or feeding a variety of farm animals. He learned many valuable lessons in food preparation, which included canning and storing fruits, wild berried and vegetables for the winter months.
As Isreal got older, he and his older brother gained lots of experience selling fresh produce from the back of his grandfather's truck. In the fall he would pick cotton for one penny a pound. When Isreal got old enough to understand business and customer service he then began working with his father, who owned Delta Mobile Home Services. His father taught "little brother" (aka Isreal Jr.) many valuable lessons including, business ethics, budgeting, hard work never killed anyone, diligence, responsibility and your word is all you have.
Duty Calls...Starting a Military Career 1987-2008
Isreal joined the United States Navy in 1997. Shortly after graduating high school in May 1988 he left home to serve his country. He remembers his mother saying, "It's time to go young man" just before taking him to the Recruiting station in Greenwood, MS. After finishing Recruit Training Command in Orlando, Fl (boot camp) and supply/logistics school in Meridian, MS; Isreal reported to his first command in November 1988. This was the start of a rewarding twenty-year career in the US Navy. The military brought him to multiple fascinating locations where Isreal tried many local cuisines including: Spain, Italy, Rome, Greece, Israel, France, Turkey, Dubai, Portugal, England, and Slovenia. While enlisted he never lost his passion for food. Experiencing these different cultures and their native foods opened his eyes to a new world of flavors and recipes.
The Family 1997-2008
In 1997, he married the love of his life; an inspiring business woman Gingerkelly Brownlow. They built their life and their family together in Virginia Beach, VA with their five beautiful children. Isreal retired from the Navy in June 2008.
A Look Ahead 2008-2015
Wanting his children to experience all the great foods that he has,Isreal decided to sharpen his cooking skills. In May 2013, he proudly graduated Magna Cum Laude with an Associates of Applied Science degree from Tidewater Community College's Culinary Arts program in Norfolk, VA. During that time & since Chef Isreal has volunteered his time to restaurants for events such as Buy Fresh Buy Local Hampton Roads, Taste of Hampton Roads to support the Foodbank of Southeastern VA & the Eastern Shore, the March Of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction, WHRO Strolling Suppers, & The Peninsula Foodbank. While working with different catering companies Chef Isreal began to find his true passion for creating. This has led him to introduce a new concept in catering which will create & deliver delicious masterpieces that are both beautiful to look at as well as healthy to eat.
